Stephen Desilets
Hey again,
I’ve been so busy these past two weeks and have so much that I could say, but I’ll try to keep everything brief.
First of all, I think I’m really progressing as an employee at Covenant House. Now that I’ve been working there full time for over a month, I really know my way around the office, and find myself improving my productivity at work every day. I rarely even need to ask questions anymore about how the non-profit functions.
Second, this past weekend, I really embraced all that New Orleans had to offer. I got to hang out with my favorite person (and only person who shares this blog on social media), Sam Campbell, as well as my awesome friend who came to visit New Orleans for the Fourth of July weekend! We had so much fun. Definitely my highlight of Duke Engage so far was when they met. We had a Fourth of July barbeque, listened to late-night jazz on Frenchmen Street for the first time, dipped our feet in the Mississippi River, and even ate an alligator po’ boy.
Something that caught me off guard was how easily I found myself able to explain the culture of New Orleans to my friend. Whenever he’d ask questions about New Orleans, its history, its geography, its culture, its architecture, or its scars from Katrina, I seemed to be able to answer them without hesitation. I didn’t realize how strongly I’d embraced this city until I realized I could explain it to another person.
I’ll keep this week’s post brief by ending it here, so I don’t bore all of my fans.
Until next time,
Steve
