The Tulane Hospital Department of Child Psychiatry has developed a project called The
Child Welfare Trauma Project that implements evidence-based screening and treatment for children in the child welfare system (i.e., foster care) and to provide better access to high-quality, evidence based health treatment. Another part of the effort is to educate foster care caseworkers and stakeholders in the system about the importance of trauma, and mental health screenings. Another project is the CATCH Directory, which is an on-line website resource for pediatricians. The website includes a directory of mental health providers for children and adolescents in the New Orleans area. The next phase is corresponding with over 200 therapists who are listed in the directory to refine their provider pages. We also plan to add a new portal for consumers, who are in need of better access to mental health resources, to provide quality ratings of the mental health treatment that their children have received

Duke Engage students will become trained in Disaster Preparedness Education and orientated to operational chapter response. Preparedness presentations will be conducted to all age groups predominately on hurricane preparedness and fire safety. During their service with Red Cross students may have opportunities to assist with disaster response as well. The NOLA chapter responds to a disaster every thirteen hours (primarily fires); and, is able to assist those affected with their emergency needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. Also, the majority of chapter’s jurisdiction is considered at-risk for storm surge in a tropical storm/hurricane scenario. There is a strong preparedness focus on educating the community on how to be prepared for the emanate disaster that could affect them. The ultimate goal is to increase vital education preparedness and resiliency of the Greater New Orleans area as well as increase the human resource capacity of the organization.

The purpose of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum Kids Culinary Summer Camp is to provide a morning cultural and lunch program to underserved children during the summer. The free camp addresses healthy living and nutritional literacy by combining hands-on healthy cooking activities where children eat the lunch they prepare each day, fun nutritional instruction, physical exercise, and art and writing projects (primarily creating their own cookbook) that help cement the day's health lessons into a physical product to take home. They will return home feeling nutritionally satisfied and confident in their ability to cook the dishes again with their families. http://southernfood.org/kids-culinary-camp/
