The highlight of the last two weeks would definitely be attending the Beyonce and Jay Z concert in the Superdome. This concert was the day after my actuary exam, so it was the perfect post-test celebration! I even hesitate to call this performance a “concert” because between the theatrics, light show, choreography, cinematography, and acting, this experience involved so much more than just music. While I was absolutely blown away by her vocals, I also reached the conclusion that Beyonce may be the smartest person alive. Throughout the three hour concert, she was so acutely aware of every facial expression, body movement, and voice inflection she chose to execute. Literally every action she made was purposeful, and I can’t imagine the mental focus required to remain so self-aware while singing and dancing in front of an audience of 50,000 fans for three hours. She is the one true queen of music.
Speaking of queens, I still have yet to accomplish a few of my goals for the summer, including visiting the grave of the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans. Additionally, I still need to visit as many dive bars as possible, buy artwork from Jackson Square for my mom, and visit Napoleon House – a bar that was once Napoleon’s house, though he never actually lived there. Hopefully I will accomplish all of my goals moving into the home stretch of this Duke Engage. Then again, maybe I should leave some unfinished business, so that I’ll have even more reasons to come back someday.
